Evaluation
In making my music magazine ‘Speakerboxx’, I tried to create various conventions of music magazines but to also compete with them so that my magazine would stick out if it was in a store.My front cover is like other music magazines, my central image features a girl with a direct mode of address. I have a likely central image of my cover girl behind a speaker and guitar. I believe this would attract my target audience. Also, the image goes with the anchorage text ‘Exclusive Interview’. The front cover also has some puffs around the central image, this is a convention of magazines. I also included the buzz words ‘New!’ to attract my audience, it is also typical for magazines to tell the audience that it is a new magazine. I followed these conventions for the front cover as I wanted to follow a method that is proven to succeed, I also did not want to confuse anybody in my target audience by making the cover too unconventional.My magazines target audience is teenagers up to young adults, this was because I don’t think there are many music magazines for this age group at the moment. The predominant colour of the magazine is black. I made a contents page as the magazine covers music so I wanted to show this by making a contents that features a dominant image of a boy playing the drums. My magazine is aimed at teenagers up to young adults who listen to and enjoy music, I showed them in a positive light in the magazine as if I didn’t they would feel insulted and would stop reading it.
I think that BBC magazines could be a suitable company to publish my magazine. I believe this as they have published such magazines as “Top of the Pops” and that was a successful music magazine for the same target audience. If my magazine was too to do as good as “Top of the Pops” I would feel that I have done a good job. Although “Top of the Pops” features a wider variety of genres as it features chart music, there are still similarities between my magazine and the magazine by BBC magazines.
